Pros and Cons of a Ductless System

Ductless and central air conditioning units can both add a lot of comfort to your home. When deciding which system to go with, the answer is truly unique to you and your home! Here are some pros and cons of ductless systems to take into consideration when you’re making your decision.

Pros

  • Keep more money in your pocket with a ductless system. They are less expensive to install, and you’ll even save on your monthly energy bills due to them being more energy-efficient!
  • You have the ability to cool only the rooms that you want to. With a central system, you can only have it turned completely on or off. With a ductless system, you can cool only the rooms that you’re using. This will save money and energy!
  • Central A/C systems can leak, causing you to lose up to 30% of energy. Not only does this waste money but it will also make it more difficult for your system to effectively cool your home.
  • If you’re limited on space, ductless is the way to go. With many apartments and condos, there isn’t enough space for an outdoor unit. Additionally, some homes lack the ceiling space necessary for ductwork.

Cons

  • Because ductless systems have multiple units throughout your home, sometimes the cooling is inconsistent. This could be because of a few causes, such as one faulty unit or sunlight shining into one room more than the others.
  • The fact that there are multiple units means that you may be at risk of more maintenance if problems arise with multiple parts of the system.
  • Some homeowners are opposed to the look of ductless units on the walls throughout their home. Although the technicians work to position them the best way possible in every room, there is no way to hide them entirely.
